Frequently Asked Questions | Ginger Fiasco

What is poetry design?

Poetry design is the practice of treating language as both literature and visual art. At Ginger Fiasco, every poem is carefully written, then designed using typography, colour and composition before being printed as a museum-quality fine art print. The result is artwork where the words and the design are equally important.

what does ginger fiasco do?

Ginger Fiasco is a language-led art practice by Auckland artist and writer Tracey Henton. Tracey writes original poetry, designs typographic fine art prints, creates bespoke poetry commissions, and runs poetry workshops. Her work transforms language into objects, gifts and experiences designed to be lived with.

Who is behind ginger fiasco?

Ginger Fiasco was founded by artist and writer Tracey Henton in 2024. Before founding Ginger Fiasco, Tracey spent more than thirty years working as a make-up artist in New Zealand, Australia and Los Angeles. Storytelling had always been central to her work; poetry became a change of medium rather than a change of direction.

Where is ginger fiasco located?

Ginger Fiasco is based in New Zealand. In person poetry workshops are held at Tracey Henton’s home studio in Auckland. Studio Poems and bespoke commissions can be shipped throughout New Zealand, Australia and USA.

Who is ginger fiasco for?

Ginger Fiasco is for people who believe words matter. Whether you’re collecting original poetry, commissioning a deeply personal gift or gathering people around a table, the work is designed for those who value beauty, meaning and thoughtful design.

what are studio poems?

Studio Poems are fixed-format, open edition original poems designed as typographic fine art prints. Written and designed by Tracey Henton, each volume explores a single theme through six individual works. Current collections include Initiation, The Poetry of Color I and The Poetry of Color II.

what quality of paper do you print on?

Every Studio Poem is printed on museum-quality, 308gsm cotton rag fine art paper using archival pigment inks and a professional giclée printing process. The paper is acid-free and lignin-free, producing a richly textured matte surface with exceptional colour stability. Each print includes a 5 mm white border for easier handling and framing.

Do you include framing?

No. Studio Poems are sold unframed so you can choose framing that suits your space. If you’re commissioning work for an interior project or installation, framing options can be discussed as part of the project.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. Rather than shipping prints around the world, I work with trusted print partners to produce your artwork close to where you live. I currently print in New Zealand, Australia and the United States, with other locations available on request.

Can I commission a personalised poem?

Yes. Tracey writes bespoke poems for individuals, families, businesses and special occasions. Every poem is an original work and designed as a fine art print.

What sort of commissions does Tracey Henton create?

Tracey creates bespoke poetry for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, memorials, retirements, new parents, homes, hospitality spaces and brand collaborations. If your project centres around people, place or meaning, she’d love to hear about it.

How much does a bespoke commission cost?

Personal poem commissions start from $300 NZD. For larger commissions, interior projects or bespoke work, please see the Work With Me page.

what are poetry workshops?

Ginger Fiasco’s signature poetry workshops are three-hour guided writing experiences held at Tracey Henton’s Auckland studio or by arrangement. Guests are guided through writing their own original poem, which is later designed and printed as a piece of fine art.

who are poetry workshops for?

Workshops are designed for birthdays, hens’ celebrations, private gatherings, creative teams and small groups looking for a thoughtful shared experience. No previous writing experience is required.

Do I need writing experience to attend a workshop?

No. The workshops are designed for complete beginners as well as experienced writers. The focus isn’t on learning poetry theory; it’s on paying attention, finding your own voice and leaving with a finished piece that becomes a work of art.

Can you run workshops for businesses or private events?

Yes. Workshops can be tailored for private groups, organisations and special events. If you have something specific in mind, get in touch to discuss your ideas.

what is tabletop poetry?

Tabletop Poetry is a collection of poems designed to be printed at home and read around the table. Suitable for dinners, celebrations, weddings and special gatherings, they invite conversation and create memorable shared moments. You can choose from the existing collection or commission original poems for your event.

Do you collaborate with interior designers, stylists and hospitality businesses?

Yes. Tracey collaborates with interior designers, stylists, hospitality venues and brands looking to incorporate original language-led artwork into their spaces, projects or experiences.
