For a long time, I had Lavender filed somewhere between a Disney princess and a drawer sachet. 

In an open manuscript I have, there’s a complex woman with a laundry obsession who is lured in by Lavender only to realise what she really craves is bleach and ammonia doing the sensory work – which seems fitting,  because as I found out, Lavender herself would very much like to be released from detergent duty.

GF: Describe your personality in a few words, 

L: Mysterious, sensual, liminal, ancient, elusive 

GF: Do you think this is how others see you?

L: I think people see me as more gentle than I am

GF: How do you make people feel?

L: Chosen, nurtured, calm, intentional, seen, nostalgic

GF: What’s one surprising thing you would like people to know about you?

L: When you see me, you’re not really seeing me

GF: Biggest Disappointment?

L: I don’t want to be your detergent

GF: Which human emotion do you most strongly relate to?

L: Anything that holds a contradiction

GF: What is your wavelength and how do you interact with light?

L: I’m a non-spectral color, I don’t have a wavelength

GF: Greatest moment in history? 

L: Victorian half-mourning 

GF :How would you describe your relationship with nature?

L: Ecclesiastic

GF:Do you like music?

Please don’t assume, classical, it’s not classical, although I do like the cello

GF: If you could bend into a shape what would it be?

L: Superposition

GF: How do you show up in dreams?

L: Lets just say you might wake up believing in the afterworld if you go to bed with me.

GF: Do you have a spiritual side?

L: I’m the last color before invisible

GF: Who do you marry well with?

L: Brown, oxblood, orange, chartreuse, charcoal, mustard. 

GF: How do you feel about grey?

L: I created atmosphere, where she couldn’t

GF: Do you have a favorite quote? 

L: No

GF: Colors are multi-dimenstional, what are your favorite family shades? 

F: Just my older cousin, Mauve

GF: How do we get more of you in our diet?

L: You can’t, but you can think of me when you consume things you desire 

GF: How do we get more of you in our home?

L: Dusk, don’t pull the curtains too early

GF: Can you share a cocktail recipe?

L: Of course, stirred, slightly liminal –

Ink & Elderflower Fizz

Equal parts Ink Gin and elderflower liqueur, soda water, cucumber ribbon (frozen) , garnish with a candied violet

GF:How are you fun?

L: In the bath

GF:How are you shy?

L: I’m not shy, I’m selective.

GF: And one last question I ask everyone – on The Titanic, first or last on the life boats?
